How I got started with my gumball business
My First Six (6) Weeks
Time Spent: 1 hour and 30 Minutes
Money Received: $27.25
Week 1
Purchased and Set up my machine with gumballs
Found a business owner where my family used to get the oil changed on their cars and made sure that they did not have a gumball machine or candy machine in the waiting area. I called the business owner and found out that the best time to visit with him was on Saturdays.
Created and practiced my script with my mentor (dad)
Week 2
On Saturday I had my dad take me to the oil lube garage and introduced myself to the business owner and asked to have the machine placed in the waiting room using my script. He said yes.
I worked with the business owner to place my machine in a good location – right by the register.
Wrote a thank-you letter to the business owner and mailed it to him.
Week 3
Set up my files to store my receipts so I could keep track of what I had spent so far.
Week 4
Saturday I visited my gumball machine.
Cleaned the machine and refilled it.
Emptied the money into my money bag– (waited to count it until I got home )
Thanked the business owner again – in person. (And offered him a free gumball!)
Asked the business owner if in 2 weeks I could add another machine with Skittles to test what product (Gum or Skittles) worked better.
Week 5
I counted the money to find $15.00 and added the amount to my income tracker
I took a loan from my Dad to purchase the new machine
Purchased and set up my new gumball machine with Skittles at the location
Week 6
Saturday I visited my gumball machine.
Cleaned the machine and refilled it.
Emptied the money into my money bag– (waited to count it until I got home – and had received $12.25 and added that amount to my income tracker)
Placed the Skittles machine next to the gumball machine
Thanked the business owner again – in person. (And offered him a free gumball!)
